01 · Before the scan
Feeling anxious before a scan?
It is common to worry about results, the machine, or simply the unknown. A calm visit starts with knowing what is ordinary:
- You will be guided where to wait and what preparation applies to your test.
- You may ask the doctor or staff to explain the step in simple words.
- Most ultrasound exams are gentle external scans; some need a full bladder or brief fasting — you will be told in advance when you book.
- X-ray and CT use controlled imaging protocols; tell staff if you might be pregnant.
This centre is not a counselling clinic. If anxiety feels overwhelming in daily life, please also speak with your family physician. Here, our role is respectful, unhurried diagnostic care.
02 · With someone you trust
Bringing a family member
Many patients feel steadier when a relative or friend comes along. A companion can usually stay in the waiting area, help with forms, and accompany you to and from the scan room as permitted.
Whether someone may stand inside the scan room depends on privacy, the type of examination, and clinical rules. Please ask at reception when you arrive — staff will guide you kindly.
Helpful to bring
Photo ID, doctor’s referral, previous reports, and a water bottle if a full bladder was advised.

03 · Pregnancy visits
Pregnancy scan: calm visit, ethical care only
Expectant families often carry hope and worry together. Obstetric ultrasound here is performed for legitimate clinical reasons advised by your doctor — dating, growth-related assessment, and other indicated studies — in a setting that aims to be orderly and respectful.

If you have questions about preparation or timing, book online or call the centre. For clinical meaning of findings, always follow up with your obstetrician.
Children
Bringing a child for a scan
Tell children in simple words that the machine takes pictures from outside — like a camera for the inside of the body — and that the gel may feel cool. A parent or guardian can usually stay with the child unless the team asks otherwise for a short step.
Bring a comfort item if it helps. Avoid promising “no gel” or “no waiting”; honesty with soft language works better than surprises.
First CT / X-ray visit
What the machine does (simple)
Ultrasound: uses sound waves and a small probe on the skin with gel. No ionising radiation. You may be asked to hold a full bladder or fast — only when that study needs it.
X-ray: a quick picture using a controlled amount of X-rays. You stay still for a moment. Lead protection may be used for parts of the body not being imaged, as per protocol.
CT: the scanner is a large “doughnut.” The table moves through while the machine takes detailed pictures. The team will explain breath-holding if needed. Contrast (dye) is used only when ordered and after screening questions.
None of these machines “treat” disease by themselves; they help your doctor see structure and some function. Results are interpreted with your clinical history.
Elderly & mobility
Coming with limited mobility
Call ahead if a wheelchair or extra time is needed. A family member can help with forms and changing. Staff can guide seating and the short walk to the scan room. Parking and approach notes are on the how to reach page.
